“Photographs are a way of imprisoning reality…One can’t possess reality, one can possess images–one can’t possess the present but one can possess the past.” ― Susan Sontag, On Photography

Photos from London, June 2019

London was a very late addition to my travel plans after my job in Istanbul fell through, so the plans weren’t as developed as I would have liked, but the experience was excellent. After the solitude of Iceland, the crowds were a change of pace, but five shows in five nights, incredible museums, and food from all over the world made for an excellent first visit...

Photos from North Iceland, June 2019

While the north of Iceland was a bit forbidding when I visited it in March a few years ago, it was absolutely lovely in June this past summer. Featuring Iceland’s second city, Akureyri, Martian landscapes, and two of the best waterfalls you’ll ever see, it’s certainly a place you’ll want to spend time exploring.

Photos from the Westfjords of Iceland, June 2019

I visited the Westfjords on an earlier trip to Iceland but hadn’t made it to this little corner in the southeast corner of the region. Photos from East Iceland June 2019

In my previous trips to Iceland, I had never made it to the easternmost part of the island, but finally got there this time. From a lovely stay in Seyðisfjörður to some of the most rugged cliffs and isolated beaches in the country, the east was never a disappointment.

Photos from Snæfellsnes Peninsula, June 2019

While I am unlikely to ever learn how to spell it, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula will remain one of my favorite parts of Iceland. It’s filled with some excellent scenery, lovely little towns, and all the lupine. All of it. There are some excellent camping areas all around the peninsula, making it an easy side trip from the Ring Road you don’t want to miss.

Photos from Ljubljana, Slovenia June 2018

Slovenia was the entry point for my adventure through the Balkans and one of the loveliest cities I’ve visited. I was fortunate enough to have a few hours to wander the old city center alone one morning and to stumble on a wine festival and street food fair another. When you get to Slovenia, be sure to wander the streets of Ljubljana, sample the creme cake and...
